2025 TITLE SEQUENCE
BUTTERFLY
This high octane action thriller on Amazon prime was an absolute blast to work on. Butterfly, originally based on a graphic novel, follows a group of spies and intelligence operatives as they navigate the world of espionage and family ties. We crafted a main title sequence encapsulating the primary themes within the series. Packing in all of the lies and deception of a spy thriller, along with the passion of familial drama. The end result captures the set pieces and intensity while also highlighting the backdrop of South Korea.
On top of a main title sequence we designed and animated the opening for the first episode, and created location callouts. I was also able to help redesign the show logo.

STYLE FRAMES
The selected initial style frames utilized a black and white aesthetic informed by the serious tone of the show. Our designs featured vignettes of spy action, bustling urban settings, and familial drama.
While many of these frames were redesigned or lost in the final product, what remained is the gritty textural quality, the subject matter, and the story the sequence told.
Designed by Nick Gardner and Daniel Geiszler
Some initial sketches for boards created to expand the sequence to a full 24 frames. It was important to begin with rough ideas and comparing them to the final frames showcases how they informed the design.
We continued to refine the design and color pallet after the client selected the direction. This included featuring more moments from the series such as locations and set pieces. We also injected a new vibrant color scheme that is directly influenced by Korea’s urban and rural landscapes. We began calling this direction Korean Sun Bleach, as if the style frames had been out in the daylight for years.
